How to Balance Neutrals and Brights

I’m all for wearing winter whites, muted grays and black outfits during the winter but I also love to wear brights. When the weather is cold and sometimes dreary, I like to brighten up my day by wearing either a print pattern, bright colors or both. In this outfit, I am wearing a brightly colored and patterned blouse and a matching purple scarf. I kept the rest of my outfit neutral to let these pieces be at the center of the outfit. You don’t want to go overboard with prints and color as it might look as if you’re trying to do too much and can’t decide on one or two pieces to “make” the outfit. Remember that less is sometimes more and this pertains to colors and prints too.

I can’t stress the importance of having a perfect pair of nude heels. Nude heels go with everything and they make you look taller as they create one continuous line as opposed to ankle strap heels that at times can cut you off at the ankles and make you look shorter. You can wear nude heels to the office or with your favorite pair of denim, like I have in this outfit. My favorite thing about these heels is that when you don’t know what shoes to wear you can always turn to nude pumps because they practically go with any outfit you put together.

I’m going to let you in on a little secret – The reason this top is so bright and flowy is because it’s a beach coverup. That’s right, this ‘blouse’ is a tunic you wear over a bathing suit. I’m always looking for new ways to wear a piece – I like to get lots of use out of my clothing. There is no such thing as one and done in my wardrobe.
