Already Packed – Why You Need to Plan Your Travel Outfits & How I do It
The Importance of Planning Your Travels Outfits
I’ve shared with you the importance of having a stylish travel outfit before on blog posts such as: The Essentials to a Stylish Winter Travel Outfit and The Italian Dress Code – Travel in Style.
Traveling in style doesn’t have to be complicated or hard or a burden. Having a stylish travel outfit is something that you need to plan for before even getting on the plane, train, car, or bus so you don’t have to worry about it once you’re there.
Planning all of your outfits before your trip will save you a lot of stress during your travels. When I say all of your outfits, I do mean all of them.
Plan what you’re going to wear morning, day and night. Plan the outfit you’ll wear to that special dinner or Sunday brunch. Plan what you’ll wear to visit museums and art galleries.
If you do plan your outfits beforehand save the details on your phone.
For example; when I plan my outfits I consider everything I need to complete the outfit. Shoes, pants, shirt, jacket, jewelry and handbag. I take note of the outfit on my phone, the occasion and the day. Sometimes even lay out all the items and take a picture of the outfit.
This is how it would look on my phone:
Occasion: Outfit for visiting museums
City: Florence
Date: November 24
- Items:
- Light Gray Jeans
- Leopard Print Flats
- Black Lace Blouse
- Green Jacket
- Mini Burgundy Crossbody
- Emerald Stud Earrings
- Sunglasses
- Gold Lace Ring
It might seem like a pain in the butt to do all of this planning but believe me it will keep you from looking like your luggage blew up.
And you know what I’m referring to when I say blew up! When you’re frantically looking through your luggage trying to find that one short you thought you packed that you needed to complete your travel outfit.
This is especially important for longer trips. Peter and I were in Italy for a month traveling to different cities and we each took one carry on and one checked bag. For a fashion blogger this might not seem like enough luggage but we had it all planned out before so we didn’t take a lot of clothes we didn’t need.
Also, we don’t like carrying around a bunch of luggage it’s a pain.
(Side note: even with all this prepping our luggages was still over weight going to Italy so you can imagine the baggages fees on the way back home after buying things.)
You don’t have to be as specific as I am but having a loose idea of the clothes you need to pack and the occasions you need to plan for will take you a lot of time and stress.
Remember to pack for the unpredictable; rain, snow or extreme heat. Make sure to check the weather a couple of days before you leave to see if anything has dramatically changed and adjust as needed.
A Stylish Travel Outfit for Florence
These photos were taken in front of the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore or Duomo di Firenze, the main church of Florence.
We were in Florence the end of November and the weather was perfection! A light jacket was all that was needed.
Florence was a dream! It was my first time in the magical city and it won’t be my last!
