What is dressy beach style & what should you wear
Resort Casual?
What does your beach style consist of? Is it a red hot bikini, sexy braids, and a hat that will make you want to book a last-minute trip to the Caribbean?
What is it about beach style that you love most. For some it’s the opportunity to lounge around in a bikini all day for others it’s the chance to wear nautical inspired pieces and go sailing. For the few the joy comes in all of the above.
I like wearing a nautical inspired outfit and showing off my favorite summer bikini! Then there are times when my beach style needs to be a little more refined and appropriate for fancy summer beach dinners. These occasions call for the type of outfit I’m wearing in this post.
Classy beach style is a fun category of dress. The need to “dress nice” while on the beach can seem a little contradictory to some but let’s think of some scenarios when this dressy beach style is necessary.
When your significant other invites you to a delightful dinner by the beach, a bikini or stripes just won’t do. A business casual event that takes place somewhere by the beach. A family gets together, honeymoon beach outfits and even a beachside wedding.
There are many occasions when you’re beach style needs to consist of more than just a string bikini.
So what should you wear?
When refined dress attire is necessary, a dress is one of the easiest options to wear.
I previously shared with you a beach outfit that consisted of a beautiful printed dress, matching wedges and pretty accessories. View the post, Wondering what to wear to the beach? I’m wearing a short dress in this outfit.
You also have the option of wearing a maxi dress. Look for a printed dress made of light material. The last thing you want is a thick maxi dress. Stay away from anything that might be too hot, look for chiffon dresses instead. View the post, Beachwear essential – printed chiffon maxi dress for an outfit example.
You could also wear separates like I did in this outfit. I wore a pair of fun, bright, printed shorts, and a crisp white button down with lovely details on the sleeves. I finished off this beach outfit with wedges, gold accessories and a white hat.
Three style tips to nail your dressy beach style
If you notice in this outfit and the other two mentioned, they have three things in common.
- The outfit incorporated a summer print. The print could be a prominent part of the outfit like in the two dresses or a piece that is not the entire focus, as the shorts in this outfit.
- Light fabrics are a must! Summer beach style calls for beautiful clothes that don’t weigh you down because it’s too hot, and the thick material doesn’t look stylish at the beach.
- Lastly, wear flat sandals, wedges or a heel with a very thick stacked heel. Skinny stilettos and beach don’t go together, and it looks weird. Wedges and sandals are more comfortable than thin heels, and you’ll be able to go places where stilettos can’t.
Keep these three things in mind when putting together a nice outfit for the beach.
Remember that beach style can consist of more than just a bikini and a hat can add a lot of an outfit. If you can, next time you go out wear a Panama. And if you don’t own a Panama, next time you’re shopping stop by a hat shop and try one on.
