Adding Color to an Outfit
The seasons have a lot to do with what I wear on a day to day basis. In my spring outfits, I wear pastels, florals, bright patterns. When it’s summer, I wear stripes, lots of blue, yellow, and brights. There are some people that like to stick to one or two colors or even one general color palette but, not me, I like to experiment and try it all. It’s fun to experiment from time to time.
If you normally don’t wear much color, try to sneak some in with your accessories or shoes.
The first method I recommend: add a bright solid or printed scarf. Scarves are easy to wear, add a delightful pop of color to any outfit. Find a variety of scarves in different colors, fabrics and prints so you have one that works year-round.
The second method to add in color to an outfit is with colored jewelry. It doesn’t have to be huge babble jewelry, you can go with something subtle such as I did in this outfit. I’m wearing a mint green bracelet that matches the color of my mint jeans.
Lastly, add color to an outfit with your shoes! Playing with the spring mint green trend I also coordinated the color of my sandals to match my mint green pants. You can see the theme I was going for.
Color Coordinating with Mint Green Pants
When wearing lots of color in an outfit, as I did in this mint green pants outfit, make sure it looks cohesive. To achieve a cohesive look; first decide what item in your outfit is the focal point; the shirt, pants, shoes or accessories. Once the main piece is selected, add additional items that enhance the overall look and support the clothing piece you choose as my main focal point.
In this case, I wanted the outfit to enhance the pattern on the shirt, the shirt was the main focus point.
I happened to have the perfect color of mint jeans that matched a color from the fun Aztec pattern on the shirt. The matching color of the denim pulls that color from the pattern and makes the entire look pop.
To top it off, I’m also wearing sandals, nail polish, and jewelry in mint the same mint green hue. The entire look is cohesive because I use one color family to coordinate the individual pieces. This is how I created my stylish mint green pants outfit. You don’t always have to match all the colors in an outfit. Just make sure that when you do mix colors they are complementary.
Style Tip: When wearing a patterned top with various colors select one color from the pattern and use that color in another piece in your outfit, even if it is just a bracelet. Coordination in your colors will make your outfit look cohesive and make a pattern pop just a little bit more.
How do you add color to your daily outfits?
