How to Dress Up a Fair Isle Sweater
Fair Isle
It’s the holiday season, and that means sweaters and pretty patterns. One pattern that seems always to show up come December is fair isle. Fair Isle sweaters are very popular in the chilly days of December and are great for adding a pretty print to your outfit.
Did you know that the fair isle pattern is named after a tiny island in the north of Scotland where this pattern originated?
Since fair is more of a cute pattern, it can be a little tricky to pull off. If you don’t, usually wear a lot of prints you might be wondering how you’re able to style such a pattern in everyday wear.
Keep reading to find out how you can dress up a fair isle sweater and wear it to work or a holiday gathering.
Dressing Up a Fair Isle Sweater
In this outfit, I went for a dressier look instead of a “cute” look.
For example, I could have paired this sweater with black leggings and worn flat boots and loose braid for a more relaxed outfit, but I wanted to do the opposite.
I created a look with this fair isle sweater that one could wear to a holiday party or just to the office.
I paired the fair isle sweater with black cropped trousers, metallic pumps, a gray beanie and a bright red satchel. The silver metallic pumps match the gray beanie and sweater. The black trousers and red satchel match the colors in the fair isle sweater.
The color coordinating brings cohesion to the look. The cropped trousers paired with the longer fitting sweater brings balance to the look. Overall the outfit works because of the colors and balance. Remember the 5 step checklist to looking stylish every day?! If you don’t, I suggest you get a refresher on the 5 points.
I could have also worn this sweater with a short swing skirt or black midi skirt for a more feminine outfit.
