A Subtle Way to Wear Neon
Adding a Touch of Neon to a Summer Outfit
Neon clothing is fluorescent, adventurous, eye-catching and just plain fun! These bright hues, whether it be a neon yellow tank top or a lime green skirt, bring to life any outfit.
Admittedly, I don’t own a lot of neon clothing and I don’t often wear neon but it’s a fun variation to add to a summer look.
When wearing neon there are a few ways you can pull it off. In accessories, the neon is an accent to the outfit. A single bright neon piece of clothing paired with neutral tones creates a large contrast in color and an interesting look. Lastly, you can go all out and wear a neon dress or neon skirt with matching top. Depending on your sense of adventure and personal style neon options can be tailored to fit your unique self.
In this summer look, I went with the contrast approach to wearing neon. Black and neon are polar opposites but when the two are paired in one outfit it creates an interesting result. The highlighter yellow tank top paired with black skinnies jeans and a dark blue blazer give the relaxed tank top a polished vibe, while still keeping the fun essence of the neon.
I obviously went with a more conservative approach to wearing neon because this makes sense for my personal style. No matter how you wear it or what you wear, you have to make it work for you and your personality.
As with most risky colors the easiest way to incorporate them into your outfit is through accessories. In an outfit I shared with you earlier this summer, I wore neon pink shorts with neon accessories. Neon accessories can easily be added to almost any outfit for a fun touch.
If you want to get a little more bold, create a colorblock neon outfit. Pairing one bright neon piece with another is a great way to show off that you’re not afraid of color, especially neon. When combining two neon pieces make sure the colors look together and that they’re mostly solids, meaning, avoid adding any prints or patterns with the neon. Keep the accessories to a minimum and in neutral colors.
On a fun sidenote, I tried a different hairstyle. I’ve been seeing a lot of centerpart ponytails so I thought I would give it a try. I initially thought this look wasn’t going to work for me but, surprisingly, I ended up really liking how it looks. It’s a super simple hairstyle that looks polished and also works for the office – a positive triple whammy!
