How to Wear a Casual Bolero

Do you own a bolero or want one? Have you at times wondered how to wear a bolero? Or are you wondering what a bolero even is?

For a quick fashion 101, a bolero (also referred to as shrugs) simply slips over your shoulders to provide additional coverage. Of course, it can also be worn to add a stylish dimension to an outfit. Boleros are short and don’t go past the waist. Many are made to end just above the waist. It can also be short or long sleeved. The bolero I’m wearing in this outfit has longer flowy sleeves. This style has the option to button up the sleeves to make them shorter.

Many times boleros are worn to formal occasions. It can glam up an outfit as these pieces can be covered in sequins for embellishment. The type of fabrics and colors or patterns available are endless, from taffeta or wool and solid colors or printed patterns. There are tons of varieties available and you’re sure to find one for every occasion and for every style.

Boleros are often worn when a strapless or spaghetti dress are not appropriate, like Sunday mass or religious events. Last week was my sisters first communion, I wore this blue lace sleeveless dress but covered up with a light blue bolero.

In this outfit, I wanted to keep it semi-casual so instead of wearing this printed bolero over a dress I paired it with a lean tank top, a pair of skinny jeans, and heels. This look is fresh but polished, perfect for a spring day.

My favorite thing about boleros is how flexible it is. It can be worn with every type of shirt, dress, or outfit. Boleros are the perfect pieces to make a stylish statement.
